This collection represents 2 months of field research in Bogotá, Cali and Villa de Leyva, Colombia in 1999. With grants from Stanford University, I went to Colombia to seek out Latin American popular/political theaters (T.E.C. and Teatro de la Candelaria in particular) that had direct contact and/or were influenced by Teatro Chicano (El Teatro Campesino in particular) in the United States. The intersection of the Teatro Chicano and the Nuevo Teatro Popular Movements between 1965-1975 is the basis of my book manuscript and, as such, the questions I pose to my subjects all touch upon their exposure, influence and/or knowledge of Chicano Theater. I am extremely pleased that these interviews (over 25) of some of the most prominent teatristas practicing in Colombia in 1999 and, as well, the visual tours of their respective theatrical spaces can be of use to future scholars.
