I found this to be one of the most interesting plays so far. It fascinated me the way the way the childrens simple reality was distorted or analyzed in so many different ways. And though both proffesors views at first seem a bit "exagerados" (exaggerated or extreme) and ridiculous, they did each have a bit of truth to them. But more than anything I felt like the reality was as simple as the first version of two curious kids forced to the streets because of their economic situation and in the dump they play and do what what they have. I felt like it was an act more of curiosity than of malicous purpose. I wonder also how their act was see among the people who benefited from all the food that poured out of the train. I wonder if this was a true life case or article the author had read in a newspaper?
In all I feel like the play points out the very onesided versions of a story that receive from different mediums, newspapers, school. Newspapers here and in Latinamerica tend to be very onesided or manipulated to try to keep the readers under a general ignorance. For example how the news broadcast in this country doesn't report Iraqi tragadies, but costantly reports our own. The same thing happens in Colombia's internal war, the press publishes all violent guerrilla acts but neglect to report any violent acts performed by paramilitares. People need to open their aanylize their eyes and analyze the situation from different perspectives. It's sad to see that this distored media is so influental over a large part of the people.
Just this weekend I was encountered by this type of ignorance influenced by the media when one of my own family members called me a "guerrillera" for simply stating some facts on paramilitar actions. This say man could not understand that was pro peace instead of the pro "the lesser eveil of the two", as the media tries to justify violent affairs.
