Artist Statement:

 

How did, Haiti, the enfant terrible of the Americas become the world's bête noire? VeniCreatorSpiritus considers questions of Origins from the perspective of Haitian Vodou Spirits.


Gina Athena Ulysse is associate  professor of anthropology and African-American Studies at Wesleyan University. She is the author of numerous articles as well as her first book, Downtown Ladies: Informal Commercial Importers, A Haitian Anthropologist and Self-Making in Jamaica (Chicago, 2007). She is currently working on her second book, On What (Not) to Tell: Reflexive Tales of a Haitian Feminist Anthropologist as well as developing her performance/installation project, VooDooDoll, What if Haiti Were a Woman: On ti Travay sou 21 Pwen or an Alter(ed)native in Something Other than Fiction.
