Artist Statement

Identity and memory have been the central subjects of my work since I began working in photography. After more than two decades of work, I became convinced that it’s very difficult to construct any society outside of these parameters. Consequently, from then on, I took to photographing this continent whenever I had the chance, trying to show its people, their daily lives and their problems. Dozens of times I was forced to confront limits and borders of all kinds. I am showing two of these borders here, both of them contemporary: the “primitive” Amazonian jungle, virgin and calm, and the traumatic northern border, the limit of which is empire itself.
