Afro-Brazilian Dance—Marlene Silva

Biography

Marlene Silva began her artistic career at the Rio de Janeiro Conservatory. She has been in the Mercedes Baptista Folkloric Ballet and today she holds several international awards for her classes, lectures, dance and music shows in Brazil, Latin America, United States and Europe. Her projects popularizing Brazilian dance and customs combine her training as a musician, ballerina and therapist of primitive experiences, and have made her an internationaly known choreographer. She has received the Commendation of the Artistic Merit from the Conselho Brasileiro de Dança and Conselho Internacional de Dança. Currently, Marlene is a professor and choreographer of the dance group from Centro Universitário de Belo Horizonte-UNI-BH. She founded the Centro Cultural Danç'Art, where her dance school is located. She also develops several projects for the popularization of the Afro-Brazilian culture and the creation of new performances.
