Comings and Goings, A House's Journey

Comings and Goings, A House's Journey

Claudia García y Úrsula Mendoza

Claudia García and Colombian political scientist Úrsula Mendoza formed the collective "Hecho en Casa" to create the video installation Venía e iba: suceso de casa (Comings and Goings, A House's Journey). In this intimate journey through memories, the loss, damage, and abandonment caused by war are made visible. The film captures stories of houses forcibly abandoned, of ruins that still remain as vestiges and testimonies to the horror, as well as the stories and emotional relationships that constitute a vital part of the return of the population and the reconstruction of their homes at El Salado, in the region of Montes de María, Colombia.

Claudia García studied Visual and Fine Arts at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She works and experiments with different mediums such as drawing, painting, installation, and video. Since 2004, she has been socially-involved, carrying out art and memory recuperation projects with communities affected by the armed conflict in Colombia. Born in Barranquilla, she currently lives and works in Bogotá.
