Rhapsody for the Mule

Inspired by José Lezama Lima’s poem by the same name, this performance is presented as a painful ritual of weariness and outrage. Having become an ignorant pack animal, the human being accumulates the detritus of a past that offers no hope.

El Ciervo Encantado was founded in Havana in 1996, inspired actor and director Nelda Castillo’s artistic and pedagogical experience. Since its inception, it has explored Cuba’s cultural memory and confronted its reality with a unique theatrical language through plays, performances and public interventions.
