Kiyo Gutiérrez: Effervescence

Effervescence activates, through walking, exhaling, and breathing, the strong social, political, and cultural effervescence felt during the 1968 Silence March. It uses Pre-Hispanic symbols recalling the foundation of the student movement and its ongoing legacy at a time that is equally effervescent with injustice.

Kiyo Gutiérrez is a Mexican performance artist who explores environmental, social, and political injustices affecting a large part of society. Through her work, she aims to break down cultural taboos under a patriarchal system in order to generate critical reflections about social reality.
