Off the Wall: UNIVERSES at The Warhol Museum (2000)

UNIVERSES performs a piece at the Andy Warhol Museum as part of Off the Wall, a contemporary performance series held at this museum. A different setting from a theater, the museum space invites a more intimate performance, with minimal stage design, and bare white lighting. The ensemble performs excerpts of work-in-progress pieces, particularly ‘Slanguage,’ a comment on the issues of poverty, family, drugs, racism, and street violence. As a response to these issues, the piece finds hope in the contemporary urban landscape, and believes in the power of language to create social change through collective words, stories, and narratives.
