Enabling Theater - Traveling Workshop (2003)

Enabling Theatre is a series of Theatre of the Oppressed workshops for people with disabilities. This 2003 two-day workshop took place in Hebden Bridge, United Kingdom and is divided into two parts, one for each day. On the first day, Boal explains that the goal of the workshop is to enable participants and to give them tools for creating their own plays, but also for them to learn the fundamentals of the Theatre of the Oppressed methodology. Participants engage in several general exercises found in Boal’s book Theatre of the Oppressed: Games for Actors and Non-Actors.

The second day of the workshop begins with general exercises that culminate in Forum Theatre practices, where participants replace the protagonists in their works and discuss new alternatives for problem solving. Participants also share their own personal stories and strategize various methods for dealing with their own conflicts.
