Mighty Real chronicles the real (and imagined) life of singer/songwriter and flamboyant pop sensation Sylvester. The show celebrates his music and legacy and reveals man's uncompromising struggle to maintain his black, gay identity in the face of an industry that sought to change him. Mighty Real premiered in Minneapolis, and subsequently toured to Winston-Salem, Boston, and San Francisco. Branner performed all of the songs live to pre-recorded tracks.
