Dorothur's Journey (1998)

Dorothur's Journey is Arthur Avilés' second piece centered on the world of the Wizard of Oz, following Maéva de Oz: A New York Rican Ensalada. While Maéva was a theatrical piece primarily focused on a monologue, Dorothur's Journey is completely danced. The references lie in the music, on the screen/projector, and in the props and outfits. The choreography presents a gay Puerto Rican rendition of story, through a fabulation characteristic of Avilés' work and his ways of disidentifying with fables in order to create an autobiographical and political work.
