Three Sisters from West Virginia (1989)

Three Sisters from West Virginia (1989) HIDVL

Set in a contemporary Rust Belt city and performed in the basement of City Hall, this adaptation of Chekhov focused on Appalachian out-migration. The Cornerstone version focuses on the dissatisfactions, unhappiness, family tensions and homesickness of a transplanted West Virginia coal-mining family and their associates. With its West Virginian characters, the play illustrates, as does Chekhov's original, that an understanding of one group of people and their feelings may help us to understand others who have had close experiences and borne similar burdens.
