Performance Negra no Brasil

Performance Negra no Brasil

The scholar and artist Rodrigo Severo has curated this collection presenting performances by Black artists that provoke questions and reflections on whitening policies, colonial violence, whiteness, epistemicide, necropolitics, and images of control, which permeate the diverse experiences of Black populations in Brazil. These are political bodies that, through their artistic actions, evoke tactics and strategies of agency, resistance, and survival against the logics of colonialities and their material, epistemic, and symbolic effects in contemporary society. These performances attempt to address that which cannot be expressed outside of serious aesthetics, as it is hidden, disguised, veiled as a form of the "unsaid" that historian Beatriz Nascimento has conceptualized as a "tangle of subtleties" within social relationships in Brazil.
