The Schoolteacher Translated by Gerardo Luzuriaga and Robert S. Rudder
The Twisted State Translated by José Barba Martín and Louis E. Roberts
The Orgy Translated by Gerardo Luzuriaga and Robert S. Rudder
The ‘documents’ that make up this play cycle by one of the leadersof Latin America’s collective theater movement are shards, bits and pieces of a mosaic that register the ruptures and violent discontinuities of Colombia’s colonial past as well as the ongoing conflict known as la violencia. The Schoolteacher is a brief vignette in which a victim of the military speaks to us from the dead; The Twisted State shows a professional torturer arguing with his wife over dinner; and in The Orgy, a longer one-act play, a miserly old woman pays a motley group of beggars to act out her fantasy of abundance.
