In Distance is Not Separation, Thomas rethinks and rebalances how we see and observe sports imagery, the labor and value of craftsmanship; the hairdresser, the janitor, the ‘exotic’ dancer and how language constructs and transcribes symbols onto the black femme body.

Biography

Keijaun Thomas (NYC/US) creates live performance and multimedia installations that oscillate between movement and materials that function as tools, objects and structures as well as a visual language that can be read, observed and repeated within spatial, temporal and sensorial environments.

Biography

Leonel Martins Carneiro is an actor, producer, set designer and theatre professor. He holds a PhD in Performing Arts from ECA/USP (Brazil). He has edited theater magazines such as Sala Preta and aSPAs (PPGAC-USP). His current research focuses on the experience of the contemporary theater spectator on the periphery.

Fotonovela 7

The FOTONOVELA 7 project is a practical method that enables the artist to time-travel and hunt down his art actions, with the goal of projecting an “ANTI-UNIVERSE.” In that space, chaos and multiple concealed readings coexist.

Biography

Luis Almendra-Huachistáculo has a degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad de Concepción (Chile) and a Master’s in Urban Art from the UNAM (Mexico). He currently paints, draws, dances, and makes reckless art actions dressed as a pink rabbit.

Sovereignty/Necropolitics

From the recorded testimonies of Colombian migrants, Acosta selects words and shared feelings, which are activated from the amplification of the falling drops of blood. Each drop is a possibility of tell untold stories and without mourning. A circulatory system outside the body as a place of sovereignty.

Biography

Luna Acosta (Bogotá, Colombia) is a visual artist, performer, researcher, and feminist. She holds degrees in Art History and Curatorship and Sound Art. She researches at the Latin American Aesthetic Center (CIELA) at Universidad de Chile and explores the ties between violence, finitude, roots, and exile. Her work has been shown throughout Latin America.

We Warm Up Hearts in Cold Blood

A suspended heart made of ice, two women. One draws blood from the other one’s veins and performs the transplant… the blood transplant… In this work, the blood functions as a warm, live entity. The performance will last for as long as the artist’s consciousness lasts.

Biography

Maria do Sol began by singing and playing multiple instruments. She pursues music while attending nursing school and experimenting with theater. Roberta Nascimento is from the São Paulo outskirts and loads her art with activism for Liberty. She researches the expansion of time-space and the use of psycho-physical exhaustion.

Ground

Stemming from the demands of Bolivia and of the Mapuche people, Ground interrogates sovereignty, and how dissidence is territorialized. Taking place on Plaza Baquedano, a landmark for protest in Santiago, Ground involves several performers who will manifest their dissent against the assimilation of sovereignty and territory in Chile.

Biography

María José Contreras Lorenzini (Chile) is a performance artist, theater director and a doctor in Semiotics. Her work focuses on the links between the body, feminism and post-conflict memory. Her work has been featured in Chile, Italy, Brazil, Turkey, Canada, and the USA. She directs the Arts Doctorate at the Universidad Católica de Chile.

Biography

María Inés Huenuñir Antihuala is from the Champunahuel community in Cayumapu, Panguipulli, Los Ríos. She is the author of Más Allá de ser Mapuche, among others. She teaches about indigenous language and culture and has created a CD of children’s music in Mapuche. She belongs to the Sacred Circle of grandparents around the planet and her poetry has been disseminated in several languages, carrying the prayers of the people.

MUERTAS (DEAD)

MUERTAS (DEAD) is a performance that openly condemns the femicides that happened in Chile in 2016, by steering the attention of the beholder in the form of perpetrated death. Women take possession of the public space and put themselves in the place of the dead. Body, politics, and memory intersect in denunciation and reflection.

Biography

Maritza Farías Cerpa is a Chilean actor, teacher, theater director, and researcher. An Arcis University alum, she holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and is currently enrolled in the PhD Philosophy Program in Aesthetics and Art Theory at the University of Chile.

Tear Gas Democracy

Tear gas is the weapon to counter demonstrations and dissidence. Made chiefly out of chili pepper (náhuatl chilli) due to its high amount of capsaicin, a powerful irritant of mucosae. Mexican shamans burn the chili peppers and heal with their smoke. This magical action will clean spiritually the participating activists.

OrgyPUNK/GRUPO D3 CHOK3 was born from the need of a change in awareness within a world whipped by state terrorism. Working in the margins of power, disturbances, strikes and disobedience through sabotage, the group stages public demonstrations with the firm belief that a better society is possible.
