Entre o Acontecimento e seu traço: Arte de ação nas Américas

Between the Event and the Trace: Performance Art in the Americas

Chair: Marcela Fuentes (Marsha Gall)(New York University). Guest artist: Patricia Avila (Urbomaquia)

This workgroup will look at the way in which artists in the Americas used the body in its material appearance (event) and its remainders (trace) as an instrument of political intervention. Notions of performance as “representation without reproduction” (Phelan), twice-behaved behavior (Schechner), and embodied memory (Taylor) will help us situate the aesthetic and political charge of the body in performance in regards to its tactic relationship with different temporalities.

Marcela Fuentes works in theatre, performance art, and independent radio as a director, producer, dramaturg, and performer. Born in Argentina, she is currently completing her Ph.D. in Performance Studies at NYU.

Patricia Ávila is an Argentinian visual artist. Member of the Urbomaquia collective. She teaches at the School of Arts of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba and at the Universidad Siglo XXI.
