“Sentimental Archeology, an Auto-Glorification Memorial”, a solo exhibition by Mexico City based artist Sofia Moreno at HG. For more than a decade Moreno has explored the consequences her migration period has had on her body of work and the effect of her image production. As a multidisciplinary artist, she uses performance at the center of her practice; initially tapping technology and gradually turning towards her performance objects as sculptures. Included in this exhibition are a selection of works that touch upon recurring themes; gender, fantasy, and Meso-American art; drawings, sculptures, and an installation. This exhibition was made possible in part by the generous support of HOUSING NYC.

S+S Project:
S+S Project: Founded by Sofia Moreno in Chicago in 2009, s+s project is a nomadic artist platform that is essential for cultural promotion and exchange of radical ideas through queer aesthetics + exxxperiences. Participating artists have been included in a wide array of internationally renowned exhibitions and their works are regularly exhibited by leading museums and cultural institutions across the globe. s+s project is committed to working closely with our community of artists, curators, and writers. In depth collaborations create cultural alliances between artist, together they realize project exhibitions, queer film screenings, performances, and educational programs. Our mission aims to contextulize and affirm the importance of social and cultural value of queer artistic experimentation.
Over the course of a decade, s+s project operated in non-whitecube project spaces + historical + cultural institutions, presenting alternative exhibitions of contemporary art in Texas, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, CDMX, and Central America . In 2016, s+s project embarked in a new curatorial direction to facilitate and create dialogues between Mexican and international artists from different generations culminating in a presentation of numerous performances and installations across Mexico City. These exchanges resulted in alliances, offering new perspectives, options, and solutions for self determined future programming, it's current dilemmas and their audience.
The s+s project will continue to live on through our social media content as AestheticDisorder online zine, residency program in Mexico City & pop up events, connecting artists to opportunities and behind the scenes action.Together, we've cultivated a thriving community that supports trans artists of color, access, inclusion, and bringing people together through live performances, art expositions and pop up events. This way of working is and always will be at the core of all we continue to do. In 2020, s+s project in collaboration with BABY RATTA created Divas nos Queremos, a series of micro-grants that helps support the financial burden of trans artists + activists living in Mexico and soften the impact of COVID-19. We have extended our support to Central America and South America. We continue to take donations for more information on s+s project and Divas nos Queremos. Please visit our page:
