Critical Theory: Interventions from the South
A Conversation on the Critical South Book Series
In this book series launch, we will present and discuss the interventions of some of the series' new titles, with Bruno Bosteels introducing Modernity and Whiteness, by Bolívar Echeverría, Gabriel Giorgi speaking on Plebeian Prose, by Nestor Perlongher, and Rachel Price, discussing The Haitian Revolution, by Eduardo Grüner. In addition, the series co-editors Natalia Brizuela and Leticia Sabsay will be present for this opportunity to reflect on the challenges of cultural translation within the realm of critical theory, and what it means to remap the past and present of critical knowledge production.
Organized by the Critical South Book Series, the International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs, and the Hemispheric Institute.
Books from the series will be available for purchase at the event.
About Critical South Book Series
The Critical South Series publishes the work of major thinkers and key emerging intellectuals from the Global South, or other key figures whose interventions complicate the North-South divide. The series aims to make a timely intervention in the annals and contemporary debates about the future of critical thought while galvanizing cross-hemispheric discussion. Co-edited by Natalia Brizuela and Leticia Sabsay, the series is part of the International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and is published by Polity.
About International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs
The International Consortium of Critical Theory Programmes seeks to establish the new global contours of Critical Theory today, supporting critical thought both inside and outside the university, and seeking collaborative ways to become more responsive to pressing global challenges. Among its initiatives, in addition to the Critical South book series, the Consortium also publishes the online journal Critical Times with Duke University Press; convenes biannual conferences focused on contemporary critical issues of global concern such as violence, memory, democracy, and the critical tasks of the university; and is expanding the Critical Theory Archive at the University of California, Irvine.
