Application

EMERGENYC is open to activists, artists, performers who live in or can easily commute to New York City during the program. Applicants must have prior experience in various performance genres and/or activist practices. Workshops are conducted in English.

    1. Complete the application form: you must fill out and send the application in full—please see the document download for details.
    2. A biographical statement (maximum 500 words) This short statement tells us about who you are, where you are from, your performance background and your current projects.
    3. A statement of purpose (maximum 750 words) This describes the reasons you want to participate in EMERGENYC. Please also describe the specific issues you would want to address through the program and any preliminary ideas about the communities where you would ground this work.
    4. Your resume or CV
    5. Two work samples 
    6. Two letters of recommendation (Your recommenders must upload to Submittable and also email a copy to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..) 
    7. OPTIONAL: A paragraph explaining your request for financial aid to cover the $1000 tuition. Be as detailed as possible to help us understand the circumstances of your needs.

Conflicts and attendance

Any conflicts applicants have with the EMERGENYC schedule (see the Program Description and Schedule of Events for exact dates) should be made explicit in their application. Please note: Accepted participants with more than two absences, whether excused or not, may not be guaranteed a slot in the workshop performance.
